Little Black Dress

In today’s video blog I am going to talk about a staple item that should be a part of every woman’s closet…the little black dress. An LBD is extremely versatile; you can dress it up or down, style it for work or a night out on the town. The options are endless.

When shopping for a little black dress you want to keep a couple of things in mind. To start you want to think about the silhouette.  Are you looking for something more streamlined or something more flowy? Both looks can be styled to fulfill different purposes, the main thing you really want to pay attention to here is what makes you feel the most comfortable.

The next thing you want to pay attention to is the length and neckline. If you are shopping for a dress that you can mix into your office wardrobe, you’ll want to make sure that both the length and neckline are modest enough to be business appropriate. However, if you are just looking for something to wear around town, whether at night or during the day, you can afford to shorten the hemline a bit or go for more of a plunging neck.

After choosing the right little black dress for yourself comes the fun part, accessorizing. You can go for a look with bold jewelry and brightly colored shoes for a night out, or you can pair your dress with strappy sandals, a brightly colored scarf and some over sized sunglasses for running errands around town. If you plan on wearing your dress to work I recommend sticking to the classics with a pair of pumps, a strand of pearls and fun belt to keep the outfit from feeling too stuffy.

Date Night Inspiration

In honor of the sappiest holiday of the year, I thought I would share some outfit inspiration suitable for a casual night out–I’ve got you covered if  you and your Valentine plan to catch the latest blockbuster, grab a bite to eat or share drinks downtown.

For the ladies I suggest keeping it simple. This outfit is casual and comfortable, but has just enough detail to keep it fun. The bow and lace detail on the tank top are a great compliment to the Mary-Jane pumps.

The guys should keep things simple too. This outfit is super low-key, but the tailored denim keeps it from being too casual.

Belt: Gap
Boots: Off Broadway Shoes

Both outfits were put together using inexpensive pieces from stores around town–there’s a good chance you may already have some of these articles of clothing in your closet. Even on a budget, its easy to look pulled together and stylish.

So, when you’re getting dressed for that hot date, keep a few things in mind. I recommend gravitating towards neutral colored items and adding in a pop of color to mix things up. If you’re going to wear jeans, make sure they are a good quality pair (trust me, it makes a difference.) When getting dressed for a date–whether its your first or you’ve been married for 20 years–you want to keep  things simple. I’m a firm believer in less is more. You don’t want to be uncomfortable or competing with your outfit for attention.

And if all else fails, you can always stick to black.

I’d love to know what you wore for your Valentine’s Day date night. Leave a comment and let me know!
